Girls Movie Night: The Help

Last night my gal pal Leah and I headed out for a girls movie night and saw The Help. I just recently read the book and absolutely loved it and count it as one of my faves of all time. I’m always cautious about going to a movie based on a book that I have read, especially when it is a book that I love. I’m afraid Hollywood that will get it wrong. I’m afraid watchers won’t understand the real depth of the characters. I’m afraid the director will breeze over important parts in order to make it more “entertaining”. I’m afraid it won’t look anything like what plays out in my head when I read (I read as if I’m living in the story and even formulate appearances for each character).

And though the film wasn’t entirely true to the book and that timeline of events was a bit wonky, I did really enjoy it. It has a very fun and kitschy, slightly humorous vibe to it, which is definitely different than the book but the characters are still very lovable. I highly recommend reading the book and diving into this incredible story, as I know my girl Leah will. :) It’s a feel-good, tear-jerking, gal film for sure!
